Text Explainer is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use our Chrome Extension.

1. Data We Process

• Highlighted Text & Page Context: When you trigger the extension, it reads the text you highlighted and a truncated version of the page’s readable text.
• User Preferences: Any custom system prompts you create are stored entirely locally on your device using Chrome’s native storage.

2. How Your Data is Used

The text you highlight and the page context are sent securely via our server to OpenAI’s API solely to generate your plain-English explanation. We do not store, log, track, or sell your browsing history or highlighted text. Once the explanation is generated, the data is discarded from our proxy server.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following trusted services to operate:

• Cloudflare: Acts as a secure proxy to route requests without exposing developer credentials.
• OpenAI: Processes the text to generate the explanation. Their data usage is governed by the OpenAI Privacy Policy.
